"We need to sensitise the youth"

The Support Service of the University of Pécs visited Tihany for an adventure sailing trip.

Róza Pálinkás, a student of the Department of Communication and Media Studies of the PTE-BTK, wrote a brief article about the programme.

"We need to sensitise the youth" - the Support Service of the University of Pécs visited Tihany

The PTE Support Services hold a special place in my heart, they have helped me a lot in my university life. They are very caring people who are not only excellent in their profession, but are also blessed with a pure and decent spirit in their personal lives.

I was approached by Csaba Magdali, the main coordinator of the Support Service, to see if I could offer them a sailing-related programme. I thought a lot about what I could do, and then I thought of the Tihany Sailing Club, of which I have been an enthusiastic member for four years, and the LáriFári Foundation, with whom the club organises a charity day every year.

I asked Andi Rutai and István Rutai, the leaders of THE, what they would say if the students who use the Support Service in Pécs, as well as the teachers who work and help there, could visit the wonderful harbour of Tihany with the help of LáriFári. They jumped at the chance and contacted Adrienn Hosszú, the founder of the Foundation.

On the 26th of June, the programme was implemented and many students and teachers were able to participate. The focus was on sailing, which was facilitated by THE competitors: Domonkos Németh, a student of the PTE-ETK, who has achieved excellent national and international results in his life; Peti Vida, who started his sailing career in Agárd and is now a multiple Hungarian champion. The mixed team of Patrícia Kádi and Tomi Rutai was also present and helped the water movement to run smoothly. Ábel Szűcs also contributed to the success of the day, competing in the same field as Doma, and taking some stunning photos and videos.

There were also parents who were very helpful during the programme. Among them were Dr. Tímea Farkis, whose name may be familiar to the Italian Department of PTE, and her dear husband, Gusztáv Kendeh, who is a teacher working with children in difficult circumstances in primary school in Keszthely. In addition to the helpers, the owners of the boats should not be forgotten either, as the programme was realised with the help of their sailing boats and their professional knowledge. The involvement of the young people and the owners in the organisation of the programme is a very noble task, because, to use Andi's words, " we need to sensitise the youth".

People with visual-, hearing- and mobility impairments have participated in the programme with the aim of giving them a taste of sports that are accessible and manageable for others, or even of everyday life.

Before the event, I had the pleasure to meet and talk to the PTE students, who spoke with great humour, an enviable joy of life and amazing enthusiasm about the Erasmus programme, their travels and their everyday life in general.

It is a great pleasure and a great pleasure that the association that brought me up and encouraged me to take a multidimensional approach to things was open to me and even welcomed my questions. Not least, it gives me a tremendous sense of pride and well-being that people who might never have had the opportunity to visit a tidy harbour on Lake Balaton to sail at least once in their lives have been able to benefit from this wonderful experience.

I love thought-provoking events that engage both youth and adults. Many boat owners in Tihany have indicated to Andi that they didn't know it could feel so good to give so much of what they take for granted, but at the same time, for others, it might not even be a thought that occurs. Caring and thoughtfulness is perhaps one of the most important things in today's society. Unfortunately, people do not always know what they are missing in their daily lives. Most sad and troubled people in the cycle of grey everyday life may just be looking for a smile.

The LáriFári Foundation has been supporting children and adults in difficult circumstances for years. You can contact them with confidence, because behind the name LáriFári there is a very young, dynamic, intelligent and kind team.

You shall not pass!
